March Artist Feature: Mike Manny
Michael Manny began his musical career at the early age of 4 at the Humber College Music Education for Children Program. He continued his music studies at The Etobicoke School of the Arts, Humber College of Applies Arts and Technology, and under scholarship, the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Though his main instrument is the piano, Manny also plays drums, percussion, trumpet, and French horn. He has been tutored by some of the greatest jazz musicians in the world: Benny Green, Geoff Keezer, Hilario Duran, and Garry Dial, to name a few. Though he is accomplished in many genres, Manny’s main focus remains traditional jazz piano, in the style of Oscar Peterson and other world class jazz pianists. He is also in the process of completing a jazz trio recording that will be available on CD in the near future. Recently, he became the latest member to join the Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces in Ottawa, Ontario. He is currently in the piano position with the band and also plays percussion when needed. Manny is also on the teaching faculty at The Toronto Faculty of Music teaching jazz piano and theory and a member of ' Artists Against Racism'.
